I then put a new license plate. light on from OReillys since original one was burned out on right side, though. left still worked. After doing this the new light worked but then as I drove away. the dash lights and tail lights and license plate light would not work.

If its not a bad earth the next likely suspect is one of the rear brake / tail bulbs itself, the filaments may have shorted.

I have swapped the nearside lights onto the offside and the same thing happens with that light unit. And the offside works on the nearside.
